Lent

Lent begins this week!  Ash Wednesday is only two days away.  I've really thought a lot about what I am doing for Lent.  The Girl is going to be saying a prayer everyday for someone (outside her normal mealtime and bedtime prayers).  My DH is giving up candy (as he does EVERY YEAR).  Usually I would say to give up pop or something, but I don't consume nearly as much as I used to, so I don't think that is much of a sacrifice anymore.  So...I have decided to give up Facebook!

I've thought for awhile about deleting my FB account, but it really is the means of me staying in touch with my cousins I haven't talked to in forever, getting pictures to my family so they can see them, etc etc.  However, I realize I spend too much time on FB, especially at night before bed.  So...starting Wednesday until Easter Sunday...no FB for me.  My DH will still use it (he doesn't have one, so he uses mine to catch up with his friends, etc.  I think it will be hard at first, but like our priest said yesterday, that's the point!  Each time I feel like I want to use it, I need to think of the sacrifice Christ gave us...giving up FB is nowhere near that...so the point of Lent!

I haven't decided if I want to direct people here, though.  It's on my FB profile that I have this and a Tumblr account...but it's been on there for awhile and I still don't have many readers.  I kind of like my "private" place online, but at the same time, maybe this will eventually replace my FB account.

On a related note, I would like to give back something in addition to going without.  By that, I mean volunteer work, or helping out with a charity or something...I just don't know where to start.  I signed up for several committees at church, but only two have contacted me about helping out.  I never finished my VIRTUS training, so I can't work with kids until that is completed, anyway.  I would really love to help out with the hospital...maybe I should contact their volunteer services...

That's cool! We are giving up going out to eat- win for the budget, win for weight loss. Lose for me, because there are some days I just hate cooking!
